Cowbridge School has now been working with us since mid-2010 and already together we have achieved significant environmental benefits and cost saving measures. The school first started utilising our services for hassle-free collections on all paper recycling, but quickly started liaising with us on how we could improve their environmental outlook at the school with regards to waste and recycling.
The environmental officer, Donna White, showed a brilliantly pro-active attitude towards waste minimisation at the school, and was open to our suggestions on how we could maximise recyclable recovery. We have provided multiple service recommendations for recycling in both the classrooms and canteen area, and the children and staff have now learnt to separate their recyclables at source.
This progress has already seen the school cut its waste management costs by over 40%, while reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill by over 50%. We already have plans in place to work with the school to boost their cost reduction to over 60% and anticipate significant further increases in recyclable recovery as a result.
The school has also initiated themselves into our innovative new “Sort & Save” scheme, which has adopted the school as one of its LOCAL community partners. Under the scheme parents, old pupils, or just the general local community members can deposit their recycling directly into their local Sort & Save depot and donate rebates towards helping the school continue their excellent work.
Working with such pro-active and determined organisations means making an impact becomes easy and both Cowbridge Comprehensive School and Siteserv are looking forward to continuing our excellent working relationship.
Testimonial:
“Siteserv and Cowbridge Comprehensive School entered into a partnership in November 2010. This has involved a greater emphasis on recycling across the school and also, a greater sense of individual responsibility by all our pupils for our environment.
Since beginning our partnership with Siteserv we have benefitted greatly from their superb service levels and expert advice. The easy and reliable collection of all our paper recycling was a key feature at the beginning of the arrangement but we have since utilised their expertise to employ many different techniques and environmental strategies with regards to school waste and recycling. Most importantly these strategies and procedures have seen tangible results which benefit the school!”
We have also become a registered charity with Sort and Save in the local area and this has led to a greater awareness and level of participation by our parents. The community link has enabled a more holistic approach to sustainability both within and outside our immediate community.
