Waste Sector Welcomes Budget Planning Shake Up
The waste sector has reacted extremely positively to news in this month’s budget that the government planned to “speed up the planning system and include a presumption in favour of sustainable development”.
Waste sector trade body, the Environmental Services Association (ESA) said the government’s recognition that the planning system represented a “real barrier” to investment was “good”.
The plans to revamp the process were unveiled by chancellor George Osborne during the outlining of his latest budget. It is hoped that it will go someway to supporting growth in the waste industry, who need to deliver around £20billion investment in new facilities in the coming years.
